ABSTRACT. The leather industry processes raw hides by a large variety of procedures, which cannot prevent the insurance of large quantities of wastes. Different ways of using the wastes are known. The researches developed by the LEATHER BY PRODUCTS – project in the framework of the EUREKA program, have been oriented to identifying ecological treatments of raw hides’ wastes using the classical technologies and biotechnologies (enzymes or bacterial cultures). These wastes have been then used as by-products.
